NSF’s Muhammad Fahrurrazi Salim Body Found in Brunei River: The death of Lance-Corporal Muhammad Fahrurrazi bin Salim whose dead body was missing, a full-time National Serviceman with the 1st Transport Battalion, turns what we have experienced with such sad incidents upside down because the trainees ended up providing aid to the safety team. It is usually the other way around.
The body of the late Lance Corporal Muhammad Fahrurrazi Salim was found at 2:55am on Tuesday morning in Batu Apoi river in the Temburong training area in Brunei.
LCP Fahrurrazi’s parents and younger sister are currently in Brunei, accompanied by SAF family liaison officers. The SAF is currently rendering the necessary assistance to the serviceman’s family, said the ministry.
LCP Fahrurrazi, 20, was reported missing in the Temburong training area yesterday. He was the coxswain in a convoy of four boats providing safety coverage for the water crossing segment of a jungle training exercise. Mindef said it was daylight during the incident with clear weather and water conditions were calm, and that an investigation has been initiated.
A military funeral was held for full-time National Serviceman Lance-Corporal (LCP) Muhammad Fahrurrazi Salim who died in Brunei during a training exercise.
LCP Fahrurrazi was the coxswain in a convoy of four boats when he went missing at about 8am on Sunday. His body was found by a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) search team at about 3am on Tuesday in Batu Apoi river – about 200 metres from where he was first reported missing.
On Tuesday afternoon, the body of the 20-year-old was flown back to Singapore where he was accorded a military funeral.
About 500 people gathered at Pusara Abadi Muslim Cemetery in Lim Chu Kang Road to bid farewell to the late LCP Fahrurrazi.
LCP Fahrurrazi’s parents and two sisters were also present.
His father wished he had met him when LCP Fahrurrazi was back briefly in Singapore last month. He had chatted with his son on the phone as he had duties at the mosque.
“I ironed his uniform for him because no one else did. I was his mother, his father, his grandfather. Whatever it was, he would come to me and I would iron and wash his uniform for him,” Mr Salim Ahmad said.
Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen has sent his deepest condolences to the family.
The Ministry of Defence will conduct a full investigation into the incident.
