Brothers Grimm Honored With Google Doodle: Red Riding Hood to Visit Grandma, Google pays tribute Thursday to Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm, known popularly as the Brothers Grimm, the 200th anniversary of his famous children’s stories. Of all the stories written by two German brothers, the Mountain View company has chosen one of the most popular, Red Riding Hood, represented in a ‘Google Doodle’ interactive.

Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm noted for his work in the field of language teaching and research, which has earned them recognition as the founders of German philology. In 1803 the brothers Grimm met at the University of Marburg (Hesse) to romantic Clemens Brentano and Achim von Arnim, who awakened in them an interest in folk tales. Jacob and Wilhelm began compiling and tales from oral tradition. In 1812 and 1815 published two volumes of short stories for children and home.

The collection was expanded in 1857 and is popularly known as Fairy Tales of the Brothers Grimm. Its spread has been instrumental in disseminating stories like Snow White, Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, Sleeping Beauty, The source of the fairies, Juan without fear or Tom Thumb.

The tale starring the ‘Google Doodle’ on Thursday has become one of the most popular of the brothers Grimm. Perrault was the first one picked up this story and included it in a volume of short stories in 1697, which was noted for being a legend rather cruel, aimed at preventing girls from encounters with strangers.

In 1812, the brothers Grimm wrote the story and took up a new version, which was the one that made Riding Hood was almost universally known and remains today the most widely read. The Brothers Grimm wrote a more innocent and less erotic elements that previously published. Also added a happy ending to the story, as tales used to have the time.
